Vans BMX Presents: Angie Marino in ‘Enjoy The Ride’

Costa Mesa, CALIF. (June 10, 2021) – Vans, the original action sports brand and icon of creative expression, is proud to announce Enjoy The Ride, a new high-energy edit highlighting Vans team rider Angie Marino.

Serving as an inspiration for BMXers everywhere, Angie’s dedication and fierce drive to go further hits home a powerful message: Ride because you love it, no matter who you are. Getting creative while parks were closed and contests were cancelled due to COVID, Angie took to the street to explore a different side of BMX, strengthening her skillset as a more well-rounded rider and further establishing herself as a BMX powerhouse.

“A long-term video project has always been something I’ve wanted to do, but just haven’t had the time between focusing on contests and events. With the world stopping in 2020, it really changed my riding,” Angie said. “Since there wasn’t anything to ride, I decided to throw four pegs on and start cruising the streets. It was so fun and really opened my eyes to another side of BMX.”

The part is meant to inspire others, particularly up and coming BMXers, to get out in the streets and push their own riding.

“‘Enjoy the ride’ is something my dad said to me forever ago when I was on a riding trip, and it has just stuck with me ever since,” Angie explained. “It’s a simple little reminder to enjoy the present moment.”

In addition to the edit, Angie teamed up with Vans to release her own colorway of the BMX Old Skool in peachy keen/marshmallow, featuring a signature internal tongue label and custom sockliner with Angie’s own artwork. The look is finished with a tonal debossed Checkerboard print on the external tongue as well as a tricolored die-cut rubber outsole in peachy keen, marshmallow and French vanilla that was inspired by Angie’s love of ice cream.

Leading the charge in the early days of the emerging women’s freestyle landscape, Angie Marino has solidified herself as an integral part of this scene, serving as both an inspiration for aspiring riders as well as a spokesperson for getting the women’s class added to events around the world. A consistent podium finisher on both the Vans BMX pro Cup series and FISE events, she was noted by ESPN as one of the top 50 female athletes in action sports. Hailing from Buffalo, New York, and now residing in San Diego, California, Angie can be found riding at any of the numerous parks in the area, further progressing BMX as a sport and culture.

“I’ve learned so much with this project—managing through bad weather, injuries, busy parks, travel restrictions and time constraints,” Angie added. “I’m really proud of this video project and already can’t wait to work on the next one!”
