An intense final battle at the 2025 World Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia! China made a clean sweep of the podium, but it was anyone’s game!
Notable mentions include NoΓ©mi MolnΓ‘r from Hungary, who held strong in third place for much of the competition – a huge accomplishment for ANYONE who just made their World Cup debut this year. Natalya Diehm from Australia did it for the crowd with an oppo flair after the buzzer, but multiple flairs that night in comp, ending the bad luck she’s been having with flairs this season.
Miharu Ozawa from Japan shocked the crowd with a women’s world first in the middle of her run, a seven-bar – a first for women in competition. Unfortunately, a world’s first doesn’t seem to be enough for the podium these days, as Fan Xiotong from China came back even stronger after crashing in the first round, grabbing third place and leaving her teammates Sun Jiaqi and Sun Sibei to battle it out.
Both Sun Jiaqi and Sun Sibei rode with so much power, speed and height, and with the multiple trick combinations during their runs, it makes it nearly impossible for me to choose one standout fact, but in the end Sun Sibei edged her teammate out with Sui’s, Trucks, Flairs and Sevens (to name a few) to become our 2025 UCI World Champion.
With Sun Sibeiβs victory, the UCI Rainbow Jersey leaves the United States for the first time in seven years – marking a truly historic competition.
