New England – Regional Report with Taryn Askew

Across the New England states, spring has been taking its sweet time to get rolling, but there are signs of things heating up!

Upcoming Events

Starting off in the dirt, most of the BMX tracks across the region have calendars up that show practice sessions and local races have started or are starting within the next couple weeks. The one holdout is Catamount BMX in southern Vermont, which typically has a more delayed start because of Vermont’s usual “mud season.” They have racing scheduled to start tentatively before the end of May. Be sure to reach out to the tracks and check before making a trip, especially in the early season. Tracks are also always looking for volunteers, so whether you want to help with grooming and maintaining the track, scoring or marshaling, concessions or cleanup, reach out to your local track operator.

Taking it to the streets, Rhode Island’s Circuit BMX is hosting the Battle for the Bucket jam on Saturday, May 4th, starting at the shop and branching out across the city as teams of four riders scout for spots and shoot clips in hopes of taking home the bucket! All spots have to be within riding distance of the shop – no driving necessary (or allowed if you’re a competing team) once you’re there. The event will meet at the shop, located at 29 Exchange Street, Pawtucket, RI. Hit up Circuit BMX or @circuit_bmx_shop on Instagram for more details. There will be at least a handful of women there, including myself, @letsjessbmx, @weaslo, @varie.mart, and hopefully a few others who haven’t confirmed yet. Come join us and let’s take over the streets!

This Saturday, April 27th, The Edge Indoor Skatepark in Taunton, MA is offering a free one-hour BMX beginner lesson session with your paid morning admission. Check out The Edge for full details and to sign up. The Edge is open 5 days a week, Wednesday through Sunday.
